Michael Brisbane, renowned bamboo guru, realised his passion and vision for bamboo by buying the nursery in 1988 from Michael Hirsh. The business has grown significantly, and it is now located just north of the gastronomic paradise of Ludlow in Shropshire.

The increased demand for bamboo in the last 10 years has resulted in Jungle Giants becoming the leading bamboo resource centre in the UK. The bamboo collection has increased and now boasts over 200 different species, and probably one of the most comprehensive collections of temperate bamboo in the UK and Europe.

Our unrivalled knowledge of bamboo makes us the first call for landscape architects, specifiers and garden designers, many of whom are well-known names in the media. Over the years the company has supplied bamboo to botanical gardens, both in this country and abroad, and most unusually to both Thailand and Malaysia. Exports have been as far north as Finland. Most recently in May 2007, we exported a quantity of bamboo to Norway.

Over the years the bamboo collection has been built up by visiting the Far East on many collecting trips and also by obtaining plants from other specialists throughout the world. Indeed, Jungle Giants mounted an expedition to Indonesia to source tropical bamboo for the Eden Project. There has been a lot of experimentation with a lot of these newly introduced species with regard to their hardiness and horticultural merit in the garden. Through our long association and experience with bamboo we are able to guide the customer to the right bamboos for the right situation. New introductions may not be listed here until such time as it becomes commercially viable to implement production.
