Chusquea culeou

Chusquea culeou

From the Chilean mountains. Tall, with thick solid culms providing an open, clumping habit. Typical spread is 2-5ft. The multiple branches extend 2/3 of the way around the culm. In maritime situations it is very hardy and very wind resistant. Large plants are fairly difficult to propagate and established plants should never be moved. The culm sheaths remain attached to the plant. Creamy white sheaths stand out on bright olive green new culms which softens to a yellowy brown. Numerous short branches. Bottle brush appearance. Rapid grower. Drought resistant. Good for screening and hedging. Select a free draining site for planting.
