Phyllostachys bissettii

David Bisset Bamboo
A most handsome bamboo and one of the first to shoot in spring. Because it is so hardy the late season shoots can continue growing through autumn giving a second period of growth. This plant can therefore establish itself very quickly. Bissettii always looks fresh, and is unscathed by conditions which can make other bamboos look tatty. Bissettii can form an extremely dense canopy scarcely admitting any light to the ground. This bamboo deserves an award for looking fresh all year. Excellent for screening.
