Pseudosasa japonica

Pseudosasa japonica

Arrow bamboo
This bamboo from Japan is the most widely planted and probably the hardiest of temperate bamboos.
It has arrow straight culms supporting multitudes of large and glossy leaves.
The shoots appear early in the season, and the long culm sheaths cling to the culm over many years.
The culms are upright and green to start with, fading quickly to a straw colour.
The weight of the leaves make them arch as they grow older.
When planted as a windbreak, the rustle of its leaves brings a new element into the garden.
The common name is the Arrow bamboo.

Just a brief email to say how much I enjoyed the visit last weekend. Very enjoyable and I'll certainly be back. Lovely nursery, nice healthy plants, and it was a real pleasure talking to you about the new collections from Tibet. Well worth the trip from North Wales for me.
