Thamnocalamus spathiflorus 'Nepalensis'

Thamnocalamus spathiflorus is a common bamboo of central and western Nepal usually found between 2800 metres and 3500 metres growing on steep slopes. This western subspecies 'Nepalensis' differs from the others by having hairless culm sheathes. The older culms can turn purple or black especially in exposed positions and produce numerous long branchlets. The leaves are broad (upto 1.5cm wide by 5 cm long). Growing as a clump this bamboo has a very leafy appearance. Can be used as screening or a single specimen preferably in semi shaded position.
